01 Ice water.
02 8 cups (1920ml) water, divided.
03 4 small oranges (like tangelos).
04 4 cups (800g) granulated sugar, plus more for coating.

Instructions

Step 01

Fill large bowl with ice water and set aside.

Step 02

Boil 4 cups water, add orange slices for 2 minutes. Transfer to ice water. Discard boiling water.

Step 03

Combine remaining water and sugar in saucepan. Heat until sugar dissolves.

Step 04

Add orange slices to syrup. Simmer 45-60 minutes until translucent, swirling every 15 minutes.

Step 05

Transfer to cooling rack over baking sheet. Dry up to 24 hours. Coat in sugar if desired.
